Surakarta (or Sola for short) is an incredibly beautiful ancient city and ancient royal capital in the Indonesian archipelago. The 18th century Keron Kasunanan is the former royal family's residence and is now a museum of old heirlooms. Surakarta is home to the largest tropical forest in the world, known for its bird life and flora.

The Keron Kasunanan is also known for its numerous temples, including Kerinci Temple, which was converted into a mosque. Surakarta also has a rich culture, with the best being the traditional dance of the Melayu.

Surakarta's Downtown Surakartian district is home to many historic landmarks such as the Old Town and its old buildings. A popular sightseeing area is the Old Town, where the Dutch and British influence are very prominent.
